Vittorio Ducrot (Palermo, January 3, 1867 - Rome, March 4, 1942) was an Italian entrepreneur, designer and politician of French origin.
Vittorio was born in Sicily, to Victor Ducrot, a railway engineer who had worked in the construction of the Suez Canal, and Marie Roche, who had moved from Malta. His father died of cholera in Palermo, a few months before Vittorio's birth, his mother remarried in second marriage with Carlo Golia (1841-1901), representative in Palermo of Solei Hebert & C. of Turin, a company of fabrics and furnishings , which in 1895 will acquire an emporium for the sale and design of luxury items, furniture and furnishings for the upper class, calling it C. Golia & C. Studio.
In the early years of the twentieth century Vittorio, after studying in Switzerland, returned to Palermo, taking over the management of his stepfather's furniture factory in 1902, renaming it "Studio Ducrot". The studio began to play the role of a prestigious artisan atelier until it became an industrial production company, one of the first in Europe in the furniture sector for the mass design of modernist-style artefacts and furnishings. In this period he worked closely with the architect Ernesto Basile, the painter Ettore De Maria Bergler and other artists, becoming one of the prominent personalities of the cosmopolitan and liberty Palermo of the time and also a famous cabinetmaker.
The studio includes, among others, the furnishings of the Florio villa, Grand hotel Villa Igiea, Casa Lemos, villa dei Principi Deliella, the headquarters of the Vittorio Emanuele central savings bank for the Sicilian provinces in Palermo, and in Rome Palazzo di Montecitorio and the Gran Caffè Faraglia in Piazza Venezia.
His are the interiors of the ocean liners Principessa Mafalda launched in 1908, Giulio Cesare (1920) and Victoria (1930).
As you can guess from the images, the piece of furniture was restored in Madrid in our trusted laboratory, Professor Jorge Paz Gonzalez, specialized in the restoration of antique furniture, who managed to keep the original patina without losing the personality and identity of the case and this gives the furniture a considerable added value.
